“The Reno 3 would be a mid-range smartphone from OPPO and is expected to be launched in December”
Last week, OPPO announced its latest ColorOS 7 skin and also confirmed the existence of the Reno 3 5G smartphone. Recent reports have also revealed that the phone would feature dual-mode 5G support. Now, new screenshots have been posted online, which reveal these 5G dual-mode settings on the Reno 3 smartphone. The screenshots confirm that the upcoming Reno 3 series would indeed support 5G connectivity. OPPO also revealed last week that the Reno 3 5G would be the first device to run the latest ColorOS 7 UI. The OPPO Reno 3 series is expected to be announced some time next month.
The leaked screenshot of the Reno 3 smartphone shows the SIM card settings page, which has toggles to turn on 5G, and a few other 5G related options. The phone will have smart network switching options as well, which will allow the device to seamlessly switch between 5G and 4G connections. The Smart 5G option is said to improve battery life as it can connect to 4G networks when the 5G coverage is bad, instead of search for 5G networks.
In the above screenshot, the phone seems to be currently connected to a 4G network, which is most likely because of the Smart 5G option. The 5G technology is currently growing in China and most manufacturers will be soon launching budget smartphones with 5G support. The new Reno 3 series is expected to be the first device to use the dual-mode 5G chipset from Qualcomm. Wu Qiang, head of OPPO sales, had recently stated that all smartphones priced above RMB 3,000 and launching in 2020 would support 5G. The company expects 5G adoption to grow by 20 percent next year.
The OPPO Reno 3 5G will most likely by a mid-range smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 735 chipset. The phone will come with a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, up to 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, and a quad-rear camera setup. The primary sensor is expected to be a 60-megapixel Sony unit, which will be accompanied with an 8-megapixel sensor, a 13-megapixel sensor, and a 2-megapixel sensor. For selfies, the phone could utilise a 32-megapixel sensor. All of this would be backed by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.
