With the bug affecting quick chargers, Pixel XL users saw the words “Charging” or “Charging Slowly” on their displays instead of the usual “Charging Rapidly” that appears when a quick charger is employed. On the active Issue Tracker, Google says “Thank you for reporting this issue. We’ve shared this with our product and engineering teams who are investigating it further. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.”

Google says that the problem apparently stems from the Android 9.0 update, which prevents the Pixel XL from charging quickly using non-Power Delivery USB-C chargers. The 18W PD fast charger that came in the box with the phone still works, and the issue does not affect the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL models. Google’s statement seems to indicate that the OG Pixel is also affected by the bug.

Pixel and Pixel XL owners should receive the update from Google sometime in the next few weeks.
